THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE
The 1964 Presidential Campaign is officially launched as 100,000 people assemble in Detroit to hear President Johnson's first bid for re-election. He attacks Barry Goldwater's stand on looking at any nuclear weapon as conventional.
Meanwhile, Republican candidate Barry Goldwater begins his first swing with a rally in the Los Angeles Dodger's Stadium. He attacks the administration's tax cut while promising a 25% cut of his own if elected.
THE FURY OF "DORA"
They call her "DORA", but she's no lady. The fourth major hurricane of the season slams at Jacksonville Beach and points north and south with winds of 100 m.p.h. and upwards. Damage is heavy, especially to the citrus crop, as the big wind heads across Florida to the Gulf
of Mexico.
QUEEN OPENS NEW BRIDGE IN SCOTLAND
