GERMAN ENTRY INTO AUSTRIA (UFA NEWSREEL)
German Narration
This reel begins with ceremonies to honor war dead. Goering goes to
monument also. Large wreaths are laid; one is shown, in close-up, to
be from Hitler. A close-up of the iron cross on banner.
Goering delivers an address. St Stephan's cathedral, Vienna, is seen
as well as the cheering and saluting crowds.
An animated map shows Austria joined to Germany : "ein Volk, ein Reich,
ein Fuehrer."
German soldiers cross the border to the welcome of crowds. They march
through old town, and over a bridge. An ancient castle on a hill' is
photographed. Nazi soldiers remove the border gate amid cheers.
Nazi flags hang from every window Children and adults leaning out
windows welcome the Nazis. Civilians also parade including women.
Nazi flags are handed out. Soldiers march close to camera intercut
with the usual admiring close-ups of old men, women and children.
There are close shots of Nazi soldiers and Austrian soldiers relaxing
Nazi emblems fall from the sky. Planes fly above. Himmler is seen.
