RESEARCH FILM: Film made at amphibious training base, Atlantic Fleet, Camp Bradford, Virginia, to illustrate equipment and its tactical use for deception.
Beach jumpers unit of Navy produced deceptive visual and sound effects to contribute to believability of feint landing. Unit is concerned only with deceiving enemy as to where actual attack may come.
Shows construction and assembly of various collapsible dummy craft used in early morning or late evening to appear as fleet. Added illustration indicates dimensions of craft.
Shows sound boats which broadcast sounds of full scale assault.
Shows most angles of sound equipment, including inner mechanisms, as well as pattern in which equipment is arranged on boat. Shows also smoke boats used to heighten visual effect of false attack, inflatable dummy men which are thrown overboard to appear as troops wading ashore, and dummy paratroopers used to make enemy believe parachute attack has been launched.
Outlines, using diagram, tactical exercise with equipment shown,and visually follows exercise.
Lists wind conditions which determine distance at which sound and smoke boats will be from beach.
